Saint-Petersburg Ecological union
Saint-Petersburg Ecological Union (SPEU) was founded at 1991 as a non-commercial partnership of environmental organizations. At present time it is one of the strongest and active working non-governmental ecological organizations in Russia.
SPEU is an active member of Association for Ecological Partnership under Saint-Petersburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a member of Saint-Petersburg Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs. SPEU is also a co-founder of the “Open City”, independent ecological radio station and newspaper.
Ecological Union is supported by the Committee for nature use, environmental protection and environmental safety provision of St Petersburg City Administration.

2001 – Starting the programme “Ecology and Human” - complex program for promoting ecologically responsible business and ecolabelled products and to increase environmental awareness among consumers. The first project of the programme was ecolabelling “Vitality Leaf”;
- 2002 - SPEU was rewarded with European Giovanni Marcora Award for Agriculture, Food and Environment. Holding of the first exhibition of eco-production “ECO-lifestyle!”;
- 2004 – Holding the first Forum “Eco-Expo” including: exhibition of eco-products & technologies, seminars, round tables. Now the Forum is annual.
- 2005 – Awarding the first certificate “Vitality leaf” to the air cleaner&ionizer “Ovion C”.
- 2006 – Making agreement about the City two-level system of ecolabelling. Starting the project “Eco-shelves”.
- 2007 - SPEU became a member of GEN – Global Ecolabelling Network.
- 2008 - SPEU became an associated member of IFOAM (The International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements).
From the very beginning and till now SPEU is successful in organizing thematic seminars, forums, exhibitions, arising society’ awareness in environmental problems, publishing materials, taking part in realization of city, federal and international projects.
Objective
The main objective of Ecological union is environmental education, arising environmental awareness in population, promoting environmentally friendly production, attraction society’ attention to key environmental problems in order to facilitate their solution.
Mission
Reducing the environmental impact of industrial enterprises by means of marketing tools such as Ecolabelling and Consumers’ choice.
